 Who We Are:
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is a financially independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.  It is a volunteer based, non-profit, ecumenical housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide by making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.   Habitat provides ownership of adequate housing to eligible families through no-interest mortgages.

Habitat for Humanity International has built over 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Monroe County has benefited by it's proximity to metropolitan employment opportunities, creating an outer band bedroom communities for these higher paying jobs.  The results for the county have been almost twenty years of continuous growth.  The housing markets catered to these new residents, providing them with housing significantly out of reach of the residents who work in the local communities.  People upon whom we all depend; police officers, nurses, teachers, local service workers (both commercial and governmental), families with disabled family members, as well as young families and older residents can all fall into this category.

How We Work:
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. works locally in our community to select and support homeowners, organize volunteers and coordinate house building.

Who We Serve:
Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat.  Habitat doesn not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or national origin.

How It’s Possible:
Habitat is able to make housing affordable to low-income families because:
- Houses are sold through a no-profit mortgage
- Individuals, corporations, and others provide vital financial support
- Homeowners and volunteers build under trained supervision
