Helping Our Community
Named in honor of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, Monroe County is located in the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania, adjacent to New Jersey. Home to the beautiful Pocono Mountains, Monroe County prides itself on a rich history of nature tourism.
Rapid growth has defined the region in the past several decades, with additional pressures brought to bear by an extended commute to the major metropolitan cities of New York and Philadelphia. With the recent “great recession” in the United States, caused by difficulties in the housing market, many Monroe County homeowners find themselves in a challenging position.
With the Home Preservation Initiative, Monroe County Habitat for Humanity assists homeowners in making essential repairs to their homes, which otherwise would not be possible, thus providing an essential “safety net” to the Monroe County region.
