Habitat for Humanity Seeks Homeowner for Tobyhanna Home

Tobyhanna, October 24, 2019– Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for its Home Ownership Program designed to helpstruggling renters in Monroe County to becomehomeowners. According to MC Habitat executive director Kelly Kemmerer, a home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a garage in Tobyhanna needs a family, andKemmerer is encouraging eligible families to apply.

To qualify to purchase this home, a family of two must have an income that falls between $33,040 and $47,060 (the income  range for a family of four is $41,040 – $57,060 and other income guidelines are available) , have lived in Monroe County for at least a year, never owned a home in the past, have a minimum credit score of 640, and be willing and able to pay a low interest mortgage –in addition to providing sweat equity (volunteering) of 200 volunteer hours per adult.

According to Kemmerer, Habitat’s Home Ownership Program broadens access to safe, secure and durable shelter to families with limited financial resources, as well as offering dignity and hope to people who are struggling financially,” she said..“Our work is clearly a hand up rather than a hand out.”

Understanding that safe and affordable housing is essential to breaking the poverty cycle, Kemmerer says “our work is successful when we are able to transform lives and promote sustainable economic and social change in our community.”
