Vehicle Donations Help Monroe County Habitat for Humanity

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity recently celebrated its 20th year of building better lives in Monroe County. Although for the past 20 years MCHFH has been solely building or rehabbing homes in Monroe County, the affiliate is now changing its focus to Home Preservation. This program allows homeowners affected low income, age and disability to make necessary repairs on their homes. When our neighbors live in safe, decent housing our community benefits.

One way to support MCHFH is through the Habitat Cars for Homes program. Old or unneeded cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles or any vehicle taking up space at your home can make a difference here in Monroe County. Any vehicle donated from a Monroe County zip code directly benefits MCHFH. If a vehicle is donated outside of Monroe County, the donor can simply specify that they would like the proceeds to be donated to Monroe County Habitat for Humanity.

MCHFH’s Executive Director, Kelly Kemmerer points out, “Every car donation helps Monroe County families move closer to achieving the reality of safe, decent living.”

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the sale of a donated vehicle in Monroe County are dispersed to MCHFH. Also, contributors may qualify for a tax deduction by donating a vehicle. It’s fast and easy; donated vehicles are generally picked up within two to three days after the title is received by the processing center. Habitat for Humanity uses a licensed and insured national transportation network and complies with all federal and state regulations. Most of the work can be done online.

This national program is staffed and managed by full time Habitat employees. Thirty percent of cars donated to Habitat are recycled for materials or sold for reusable parts. Recycling steel uses less energy and natural resources and produces less carbon pollution. Taking an inefficient older car off the road saves gas and improves air quality. When you help Monroe County Habitat for Humanity you are helping your neighbors to have decent living and you are helping the environment!
